Neville Goddard “freed” himself from many situations using Law of Liberty in his imagination. He put this law to the test many of times. The first time he ever used it was when he was drafted in the Army and wanted no part of it. He knew using this law was the only place where he could get his freedom. So, he assumed himself free by the law of liberty. Goddard teaches us just how to use this law of liberty in imagination to free us from our unwanted situations.
1. In the Law of Liberty, Be a Doer of the Word
Be a doer of the word in imagination.
That WORD is “WHAT” you want to be and this WORD is also your “FREEDOM”. I AM is God, I AM is your imagination, and I AM is also YOU. Therefor you can say, I am healthy, I am strong, or I am wealthy. The word is what you connect to I AM. For example, healthy, strong, and wealthy are your words. What WORD are you trying to be? To be a doer of the word you have to go into imagination and play a scene implying what you want to be like or have. This is also changing the concept of yourself because you are now changing who you are into who or what you want to be.
In imagination, change who you want to be or where you want to be. Now, what are you thinking, observing, and feeling? Scripture tells us that we must be doers of the word, not just hearers. It also says for us to look into the perfect law of liberty which in imagination is your freedom and continue or persevere doing the work (the acts or plays) you do in imagination and not forgetting the new creation you just made.
So, you have to BE a doer of this new WORD…healthy, strong, wealthy etc. You have be a doer of THAT person you want to be. This is how you do it, you assume the feeling of being it in imagination. The rest will manifest itself in your reality.
I will explain further…
Here is the scripture…
22But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
James 1:22-25
How to be a doer of the word?
One should go into imagination and rearrange the structure of your mind by using ALL senses (touching, feeling, seeing, hearing, knowing etc. ) What would it feel like, be like, or what would you hear if you were the man or woman that you would like to be or where you would like to be? Act it out in imagination. Give it all the sensory vividness. This is an “imaginal act” this act is actually the WORK (the rearrangement of the mind) working it out.
Make your imaginal act to be as REAL-LIFE or NORMAL as you possibly can. This is tricking your mind to believe that this is the real you in the real life. You are rearranging your mind to believe this new truth about you. After this imaginal act, do not forget that you did this work. Do not forget the man that you are in this imaginal act nor forget the feeling that you felt as being this new you. You must persevere in this feeling until it hardens into fact in your reality.
There you go, you just “made” yourself free. You did it all in imagination.
“So, when I find myself up against something that seems beyond solution, I have found something that can solve it. All I have to do is to rearrange the structure of my mind.”
Neville Goddard – The Perfect Law of Liberty
Goddard used the Law of Liberty to Get Out of Army
Neville dared to assume that he was free using the prefect law of liberty. In the natural world of Caesar, he filled out his application to be discharged from the Army. However, it was disapproved. This didn’t bother him, he knew the law and he did not ask or consult with no one. He simply went into his imagination and walked his home apartment touching things and observing his wife and child sleeping in their beds. Feeling the distance from where he was in his home in New York to Louisiana, he felt the sensation of being home, and went to sleep in that feeling. He made it feel so natural that he was there. Doing this rearranged the structure of his mind.
“I felt everything in that place just as though it’s taking place, and I rearranged the structure of my mind, and fell sound asleep in that state.”
Neville Goddard- The Perfect Law of Liberty
After doing this WORK, he had a dream. Goddard said, “At 4:00 o’clock in the morning, here comes a sheet of paper before my eyes and a pen in its hand; and the pen scratched out the word “”disapproved,” and it wrote in a bold script, “Approved.” And then I heard the words: “That which I have done, I have done. Do nothing!” And then I awoke.” This gave him a spark in his attitude. He knew his assumption had been confirmed. For the next 9 days he persevered in his assumption. Holding fast that he was going home. On the 9th day the Colonel called him in to talk and fill out another application for his Approval.
2. Be a Power House
Neville teaches how to be a power house and not double minded or scattered in thoughts. When you rearrange the structure of your mind, do not forget who you now are or where you want to be. Stay focused on this new structure of your mind. You already changed all the internal parts of yourself via imagination. The virtue feelings of who you are, the joy, and the objects around you.
Keep the imaginal act going. If you are sitting at the kitchen table with your computer, imagine that you are using the computer at the new job you want or at your desk at your new home. This is pre-tending in imagination. In doing this, you are keeping all the new internal parts about you and staying focused. This is perseverance. Keeping on in the daily life activities. Continuing this perseverance, you will be a power house!
Goddard uses the example of a magnet. He says two pieces of steel are the same until one rearranges it molecules. The magnetized one arranges its molecules to face one direction giving it the ability to attract and bond. Keep your “molecules” facing one direction by staying focused.
How do I do it? Rearrange the structure of your mind. The demagnetized piece of steel does not differ from the magnetized, only the arrangement of its molecules. And then one lifts up enormous weights when it is completely one-pointed. When all these molecules face in one direction, it’s a power house. The other is scattered. So, “let not the double-minded man think that he will in any way receive from the Lord,” you are told in the same first chapter.
Neville Goddard – The Perfect Law of Liberty
Be like a magnet. Keep focus in what you want to be, who you want to be, or where you want to be. Do not let your thoughts scatter you. If you have to, go back to imagination to remember who you are. Keep focused and you will draw in the reality that you want by persevering in the assumption.
‘And you simply rearrange the mind by a mere assumption. What would the feeling be like, were it true that I am now the man I want to be, now the woman that I want to be? And it is added: “but persevere.” You must persevere in it.’
Neville Goddard- The Perfect Law of Liberty
3. Persevere while Preserved like Salt
Do not be like Lot’s wife. She looked back at her former state and did not stay the course. She was turned into a pillar of salt preserved in the old former state. Salt is a preservative. In the days of old, the only way to preserve something was to salt it. So, if you turn away from what you really want to be, you better turn back, or you will be “salted” in it. It’s best to Persevere in what you want to be. Be preserved in perseverance. Salted into what you want. Preserved in what you want to be NOW and carry on in that assumption.
Tomorrow, if I call you other than what you want to be, a cold streak would go through your spine if you are still running in doubt or being doubleminded. This indicates you are not living in the end as the person you want to be. But, if your are living in the end of knowing now who you are, this would not phase you. For you would not even respond to my call because it is not you anymore. This is perseverance. Being preserved in knowing who you are now. So when I call you other than what you want to be, you should not answer. It should not catch you by surprise or jolt your cold feelings. For you are not that anymore. You are a new creation. Answer only to THAT concept.
“If I call you now and you answer, that’s one thing. Would you respond an hour later to the same call? If you persevere, you will. If now, an hour later, you think of yourself as you now . . when you dare to assume that you are now the man that you want to be; an hour later, are you still assuming that state? If you’re not, you are not persevering. You are “the hearer who looked into the mirror, whose natural face” . . he saw it; “then he went his way, and at once forgot what he looked like.”
Neville Goddard- The Perfect Law of Liberty
Summing It All Up
To sum this all up, be a doer of the word in imagination. Giving your imaginary act all the tones of reality. Be a power house by staying focused and using imaginary acts in your daily life. Last, stay the course by persevering in knowing who you are in the daily grind.
